Bio

My name is Claire Doran, I was born and live in London. Singing means everything to me, I feel like I am in my own world and have so much fun when I do it, singing really feeds my imagination.

As a soloist I have enjoyed exploring the operatic roles of Cleopatra (Giulio Cesare), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Despina (Così fan Tutte), Loretta (Gianni Schicchi), Musetta (La Bohème), Hannah (Die Lustige Witwe) and Giuditta (Giuditta), and also giving solo song recitals including works by Berlioz (Les Nuits d’Été), Mendelssohn (Elijah), Britten (On This Island), Debussy (Ariettes Oubliées) and songs by Brahms, Parry, Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky. My repertoire also covers songs from shows, including Lloyd Webber (The Phantom of the Opera, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat) and Bart (Oliver).

I am a member of the Guildford Choral Society and I enjoy performing both as a soloist and as a member of the chorus. We have performed Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Bach’s St Matthew’s Passion and Handel’s Messiah in G Live and Guildford Cathedral and, the most enjoyable of all, the Royal Albert Hall, where we also recorded for Songs of Praise. I regularly perform at Music for Autism concerts at Dorchester Abbey, where working with pianist Derek Paravicini is a special privilege, and at the Rudolph Steiner School in London.

I am currently furthering my singing studies with Jeff Stewart (Royal College of Music and Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama) and I have previously worked with Christine Cairns (Birmingham Conservatoire), achieving both my Dip ABRSM with Distinction and also my Licentiate of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music. In my studies I have been supported by the Music of Life Foundation, who help disabled young musicians.

In my spare time I like playing the piano, composing music, knitting, writing stories and going out with friends. I really love animals too, I have a dog and three cats.

I have recorded my first solo album, “The Dream”, a story told through classical Russian romances, and I am very excited to share it with people.
